Placement / Displacement is a model in which people simulate the logic of a computer system. This living model consists of entities (spectators) that are bound by rules. When the rules cause the individual entities to react on each other, a whole comes into existence that is constantly in motion. You can't design the patterns that emerge beforehand and you can't foresee the result. Especially not when PEOPLE are executing these rules instead of computers.

The website has been created through the project 'Poetry and Internet', initiated by the 'Fonds voor de Letteren' and Waag Society.
The website is a tool for a new way of writing. The frontend is a website build upon textcells that are horizontally and vertically arranged, like a cell structure. Depending on their characteristics the cells connect with each other in different ways. Via the backend Peter Verhelst can enter the text fragments and give them chracteristics (add tags or categories). The tool is for now filled with fake text and the first experiments are still to be launched.

The poster and invitation were designed using a programmatic design system called Paper Plus Plus (developed by Jonathan Puckey and Timo Hofmeijer). The designer is limited by having to execute hundreds of iterations of a set of predefined rules. At the same time his personal intuitive choice has a big impact on the result. The design process is divided in two: first the system is set out in a set of chance based rules, then these rules are executed by hand. The designer functions both as the designer of the program and the executor of the program.

The identity of Quarantine is defined by it's ever changing daily color. The colors are generated with an algorithm (a chaotic system). The publication materials of Quarantine Series are colored sheets of paper, 21cm x 29,7cm, which are used as a surface to display unpublished dutch typefaces. The website is coloured every day in it's specific color.

The book is published in association with the Quarantine Series exhibitions programme, held between June 2003 - June, 2004 in Amsterdam. The book contains illustrations of all the exhibitions and events, texts by Peter Bil'ak, Oscar van den Boogaard and Nina Folkersma, and interviews with Thomas Michelon, Macha Roesink, Jerome Sans and Jan Winkelmann.

Sally was produced for the series 'Grote Kunst voor Kleine Mensen' (Great art for small people), published on DVD. 10 artist contribute with a short movie for kids in the age between 2 and 6 years. The screenings have been on all major children film festivals all over the world. Audio post production: Bo Koek

The grey value of the "square year rings" changes dynamically. The more content Dinie uploads into a specific year the darker the ring gets. The grey value of the rings is in relation to the one that is filled the most, which becomes 100% black.

The Argyle Pullovers were knitted at the Textile Museum, Tilburg, with a digital knitting technique. The traditional Argyle-pattern is distorted by capturing the different effects that body postures and movements have on clothes.
Five different models of the Argyle Pullover were sold in editions of 10 during the exhibition.
The Argyle Pullover has been exhibited in High Tech Low Tech, Textile Museum, Tilburg in 2006/07.
